{"id":281,"date":"2017-03-05T01:13:18","date_gmt":"2017-03-05T07:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/krisp.ca\/mobile\/?p=281"},"modified":"2017-03-05T01:13:50","modified_gmt":"2017-03-05T07:13:50","slug":"tesla-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/krisp.ca\/mobile\/tesla-2\/","title":{"rendered":"How Tesla made your life infinitely more interesting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fierce lightning storm was ripping through the night sky outside the home in which Nikola Tesla was born\u00a0around midnight, between July 9 and July 10, 1856, in what is now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/croatia\" target=\"_blank\">Croatia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Midway through the birth, they say, the midwife nervously clinched her hands and declared the lightning a bad omen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This child will be a child of darkness,&#8221; said the midwife.<br \/>\n\u201cNo. He will be a child of light,\u201d\u00a0Nikola Tesla&#8217;s mother replied.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Mother knows best&#8217; is a saying we&#8217;re all familiar with. (Who doesn&#8217;t have a few gems from their mom rolling around in their head?)<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you buy the wisdom of the &#8216;mother knows best&#8217; saying. Maybe you don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>But the wisdom of Nikola Tesla&#8217;s mom,\u00a0\u0110uka Tesla, was spot on, because\u00a0<strong>Nikola Tesla,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>with<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>his inventions, fundamentally improved our civilization\u00a0<\/strong>not long after moving to the US in 1884.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: Today, you are able to turn on your indoor lights (one of the nicknames historians gave to Tesla was the &#8220;Master of\u00a0Lightning&#8221;), your\u00a0computer, or charge your smartphone thanks to Nikola Tesla&#8217;s inventions.<\/p>\n<p>Make no mistake: Tesla didn&#8217;t invent electricity. Instead, he invented\u00a0<em>how<\/em>\u00a0electricity can be harnessed and distributed. (Before Tesla\u00a0popularized\u00a0it, most folks weren&#8217;t even really\u00a0aware of\u00a0electricity&#8217;s existence, or its potential.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s funny,&#8221; you might say, &#8220;because electricity was already here, no?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yes: electricity was already here. But we hadn&#8217;t woken up to it. Tesla not only woke us up to it, but he also helped us put it to use.<\/p>\n<p>Takeaway:\u00a0<strong>Progress is available.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The question is not, &#8220;Do the things and opportunities to move your life\u00a0forward exist?&#8221; Because they do. The question is, are you ready to be woken up to them?<\/p>\n<p>p.s. If you&#8217;ve never heard of\u00a0Nikola Tesla, that&#8217;s\u00a0understandable.
