Today, folks see Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, as uber successful. 💯
Not that long ago, that wasn’t the case.
If you put Jeff’s story in reverse, even a little bit, you’ll see that Jeff Bezos wasn’t always Jeff Bezos.
Not that long ago, in the early days of Amazon, most people were thinking that Amazon would fail.
Specifically, most people were certain that Barnes & Nobles would crash Amazon.
That’s why so many told Jeff to go to Barnes & Nobles and beg them to buy Amazon. In their minds, it was only a matter of time before Barnes & Nobles wiped Amazon out.
But because he knew a ‘secret,’ Jeff didn’t listen to most people.
We put the word ‘secret’ in quotations because Jeff was happy to share it with anyone who was willing to listen. (Few did.)
The secret?
Jeff believed that corporate inertia (that is, a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged) can’t be underestimated.
As long as he kept Amazon fast-moving, Jeff believed, Barnes and Nobles would hesitate.
(BTW, the choice of his words shows you just how well-mannered and polite Jeff is, no? Because corporate inertia doesn’t just make established players hesitate. Corporate inertia makes established players lose their sense of direction. In a word: Lost.)
So, Amazon kept on moving.
Digitally, because folks were slowly but surely looking at screens more than at the world.
And fast.
How fast?
At a speed more and more folks not only came to love, but expect as a basic utility in their lives, a utility like power or heat.
Today, we all know that Jeff was right: Corporate inertia can’t be underestimated.
Because of corporate inertia, Tesla and not GM makes the best automobile on Earth, Facebook and not the NY Times is the world’s front page (Facebook is so much more, of course), and Netflix and not Blockbuster is where you binge on movies and TV shows.
Over to you.
Is your business moving at the speed your customers love?
For example, do you use texting as a customer service channel?
If not, why not?
If yes, do you and/or your staff use your personal cell numbers?
If yes, consider stopping that practice.
Now.
Instead, consider using a cloud-based system that scales.
Why?
Stay tuned.
We’ll give you a few reasons why you should use a cloud-based texting system in a day or two.
